The
island offers many fine and interesting restaurants to suit even the most
finicky palate. You can dress up and dine in a 5 star restaurant or go
straight from the beach and eat in your bathing suit and flip-flops. The
island is known for it's fresh seafood which is caught locally and served
at many restaurants or can be bought at our local fish market. Local
delicacies include stone crab claws (October - May), shrimp, grouper, Mahi
and tuna. Listed below are a few of our favorite spots on the island:
The Sandbar
100 Spring Ave. Anna Maria (north end of the island)
(941) 778-0444
This restaurant sits right on the beach and offers dining inside in the
dining room or outside on their deck. Menus differ inside and out, they
feature seafood, salads, steaks, etc. Be sure to catch the sunset from the
outside deck - they have one of the best views on the island!
The Sign of the Mermaid
9707 Gulf Drive (north end of the island)
(941) 778-9399
This little house turned restaurant is very cozy and charming. They do not
have a liquor license, but they invite you to BYOB and will gladly serve
your beverage of choice to you. The menu features fresh seafood as well as
steaks, chicken and duck. We are particularly fond of their salads &
appetizers.
The Beach Bistro
6600 Gulf Drive Holmes Beach
(941) 778-6444
If you're looking for a nice evening out, or if celebrating a special
occasion, this is the place to go. This restaurant has received many
awards for it's cuisine and service. They offer a fine wine list and
entrees with a gourmet twist. Reservations are suggested.
Duffy's Tavern
5808 Marina Dr. Holmes Beach, FL 34217
(941) 778-2501
We suggest you visit Duffy's at least once during your visit on the
island. You will find locals and visitors bellied up at the bar, as Peggy
serves up some of the coldest beer and tastiest burgers we've had. It is a
small place with only a few tables, but it's big on charm. If you can't
get a seat right away, hang out, it's worth the wait!
Paradise Bagel
3210 East bay Drive (in the Walgreens shopping center) Holmes Beach
(941) 779-1212
Our family frequents this friendly little place often. They serve
breakfast and lunch and offer a variety of bagel sandwiches, soups,
salads, etc. Our favorites are Jackie's chicken salad and the "eggel"
(bacon, egg & cheese on a bagel).
The BeachHouse
200 Gulf Drive N. Bradenton Beach
(941) 779-2222
We recommend the BeachHouse for lunch, after a day on the beach! They
offer inside dining and outside dining on their deck. They sit right on
the beach and have volleyball nets just south of the restaurant. They
offer some chaise lounges on the beach in front of the restaurant as well
as outside showers and bathrooms. Their menu features fresh fish,
sandwiches, salads, etc.
The Mar Vista
760 Broadway Longboat Key
(941) 383-2391
Just over the bridge on Longboat Key, the Mar Vista sits on the bay. You
can access the restaurant by car or boat, and docking is available if you
decide to visit by boat. The interior of the restaurant offers "old
Florida charm", make sure you sign a dollar bill and staple it to the
walls or ceiling! You can also dine on their outside deck. We are fond of
their "steamer pots", a pot filled with steamed mussels, clams,
potatoes, etc. They also offer entrees, fish, burgers, salads, etc.
Star Fish Company
12306 46th Ave. W.
(just over the Cortez Bridge in Cortez village, back on the water)
(941) 794-1243
Our favorite place to buy seafood! They offer a great selection of fresh
fish, shrimp and stone crabs (when in season). They catch most everything
themselves and it's always FRESH! They also have a small restaurant, which
serves sandwiches.
